Pieter A. Weyts
Pieter A. Weyts brings a European flair to his cross border corporate practice. Originally from Belgium, Pieter received a JD from Columbia Law School and MBA from Columbia Business School. Since joining Private Advising Group in 2014, Pieter has focused on mergers and acquisitions and private securities offerings for technology startups and medium-sized businesses.
Recent transactions include the $40 million sale of a U.S. based importer of food products, the $14 million sale of a regional real estate firm, a $500,000 seed round for a tech startup in the hospitality industry and the sale of a technology startup by its founders. Pieter also brings a unique international business savvy to advising non-U.S. ultra-high net worth clients on their investments in the United States, with a particular focus on real estate assets.
Prior to moving to Miami, Pieter was a Wall Street corporate attorney with Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York (2001-2008). While on Wall Street Pieter worked on emblematic transactions like a $1.8 billion equity offering by ICICI Bank Ltd., India’s largest private bank, which was named Best Secondary Offering of the Year by FinanceAsia.
When Pieter moved to Miami in 2009 he was a principal of Weyts Law P.A. where he focused on acquisitions of distressed residential and commercial real estate portfolios for private clients. Pieter was also in-house senior legal counsel with the Dufry Group, the world’s largest travel retailer, where he played a key role in acquiring or establishing new operations worldwide. Pieter holds a joint JD/MBA degree from Columbia Law School (Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar) and Columbia Business School (Dean’s List)(2001) and an LL.B. from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium (cum laude) (1997). He is a member of the New York and Florida bar and is fluent in Spanish, German, Dutch and French and proficient in Italian.
